Design PRIMA to run alongside ARC Show 2012

So Design PRIMA is not quite dead and gone…

The Design PRIMA story is a long and to many, a well known one.  Some will remember its heritage from Spectrum and its association with the Architectural Review at the Commonwealth Centre or in its reincarnation as Design PRIMA at Old Billingsgate with Mix Interiors and eventually The Business Design Centre.  After years of declining visitor figures and somewhat questionable feedback as to the validity and focus of the event, Design PRIMA has landed the backing of The ARC Show and United Business Media, still one of the power houses in B2B publishing and exhibitions.  The publications that they will bring to the table range from Mondo (a lighting publication) to Building Design and Property Week, well respected publications with respected voices and good integrity.

From the 29th February – 1st March 2012 The ARC Show and Design PRIMA will run side by side with exhibitors being able to see the latest in commercial, retail and residential lighting and contract furniture all under one roof at the Business Design Centre.

If Design PRIMA can find its way back into the hearts and minds of the contract trade and sit along side of Clerkenwell Design Week, next year could hold some interesting events for designers and trade alike.  The market here needs these platforms to engage a wider audience, who are becoming much more sophisticated and have higher expectations than just visiting another tired trade show.

This November will see the launch of an exciting new interiors event that will be held in Barcelona – Inside. Running alongside the World Architecture Festival, Inside is a brand-new festival celebrating the finest interiors and their creators.

With a series of through a curated events, talks, installations and a prestigious awards programme, Inside looks set to engage the industry as never before.
One of the most exciting new elements is that designers will be given the opportunity to present their work to the live panel of judges and in front of a live audience, which will include clients and press.

A beguilingly simple approach to escapism and tranquillity – a beautiful costal getaway by Studiopublic

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Studiopublic received a referral from an architectural practice whose client was an over worked and over stressed couple in the city and who wanted the ‘perfect’ costal getaway. Their brief was quite simple – ‘escapism and tranquillity’.

The property itself is blessed with stunning sea views and this was something Studiopublic successfully incorporated into the feel of their design, reminding us of the buildings relationship to its surroundings.

The location is again referenced in the neutral palette applied to the interior, with beautiful and simple details throughout that bring sense of luxury to the space. For example, the beautiful large glass sheet that divides the bath and the walk in shower has a large sea horizon manifestation applied to its surface and the wallpaper feature in the living room, which incidentally is one of the client’s favourite elements.

The use of reclaimed timbers, natural timbers and glass all work together with a rather beguiling simplicity that lifts the heart and clams the mind.

Studiopublic are a commercial interior design firm based in Truro, Cornwall. As a practice they are experienced in hotel, commercial and restaurant interior design, from space planning or refurbishment through to new build.

The ARC Show 2011: Architectural, retail and commercial lighting show

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The 12th -13th January will see the ARC lighting show relocate to the Business Design Centre in Islington, London (nearest tube is Angel on the Northern Line). “Source and gain inspiration…” as the event organisers bring together the ‘entire spectrum of lighting disciplines for 2 days of sourcing, networking and celebrating – new venue, new life maybe?

Over the last few years, exhibitions from all sectors have suffered from a decline in quality and ingenuity, lacking in general both innovative new products and visitor footfall. I hope that this year sees a change in the exhibitions and shows aimed at our market and create an environment that is both inspirational and engaging.

What ARC will do is provide seminars from industry on new developments and legislation, showcase a nice selection of products in its design gallery and present the SLL Young Lighter of the Year award (12th January at 4.30pm). It will also have a presence from some of the key players in the lighting market, so if you do have some free time over the 2 days, register online and head on over for the show and the IALD conference.
